Isometric drawings are essential for visualising 3D objects in a 2D space. This tutorial focuses on creating an isometric model made up of two cylinders and a cube in LusoCAD. A detailed step-by-step guide follows to help you replicate the process.
1. Isometric Snap Configuration and Modes
To begin with, set up your workspace for isometric drawing:
Activate Ortho Mode and Snap Settings:
- Right-click on Ortho mode and select Snap settings
- Activate Isometric Snap in the Snap Type options
Optimising Snap Objects:
- In the Snap Objects window, activate options such as Midpoint, Centre, Quadrant and Intersection.
- These options make drawing faster and more accurate
2. Cylinder design
The geometric object consists of two cylinders and a cube. Start by modelling the cylinders:
Step 1: Draw the Base of the Larger Cylinder
- Select the Ellipse Tool
- Type ISO CIRCLE in the command box
- Press F5 to switch between isometric planes. Select the Top Plane
- Specify the centre and radius of the circle (diameter: 500)
Step 2: Extend the Cylinder Vertically
- Use the Line Tool to draw the vertical height of the cylinder
- Switch to the Vertical Isometric Plane using F5
- Set the height to 2000
Step 3: Complete the Cylinder
- Copy the base circle using the Copy Tool
- Place the copied circle at the top, specifying a vertical offset of 2000
Step 4: Draw the Smaller Cylinder
- Repeat the previous steps with a diameter of 300 and a height of 1000
3. Drawing the Isometric Cube
Then draw a cube centred on the larger cylinder.
Define Dimensions:
- Each side of the cube has 2000
Draw the Cube:
- Switch to the appropriate isometric plane using F5
- Use the Line Tool to draw the edges of the cube from the centre of the cylinder
4. Perfecting the Design
After completing the geometric components, refine the drawing:
Trim unnecessary lines:
- Use the Trim Tool to remove overlapping or unnecessary lines
Add connecting lines:
- To show the union between objects, connect key points using the Line Tool
5. Dimension annotation
Add dimensions to the drawing for greater clarity:
Use the Notes Menu:
- Select Size and choose the desired portion to annotate
Align Dimensions with Isometric Angles:
- Open the Dimension Edit Command by typing DE
- Use the Oblique Option to adjust angles:
- Horizontal Labels: Set to 150° and 30°
- Vertical Labels: Standard is 90°
6. Final Check
After annotating the drawing:
- Check the dimensions to ensure accuracy
- Confirm isometric alignment of all annotations
