You'll soon realise that you can't delete it.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then, when setting its properties, such as colour, line thickness, etc., you'll see properties <strong>ByLayer<\/strong> and <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>. Many of you will already know what <strong>ByLayer<\/strong>. But you also know how the <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>?<\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>A <strong>Layer0<\/strong> is a predefined LusoCAD layer. You can create geometry in your blocks on it. When you insert these blocks, they will use the active layer. When you move this block to a different layer, the objects inside it will use it and ignore the active layer. <strong>Layer0<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When you define the properties of an object (colour, line thickness, etc.) as <strong>ByLayer<\/strong>, all its properties will use the same properties defined in the layer's properties.<\/li><li>When you create geometries in your block using <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>You can then override its properties after the block has been placed.<\/li><li>When you create geometries in your block with something other than <strong>ByLayer<\/strong> or <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>then you won't be able to replace these properties once the block has been placed.<\/li><\/ul><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Example of Layer 0, ByLayer and ByBlock<\/h2><ol style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>Open a new file and create two layers; you can give them any name. Define different colours and line thicknesses so we can easily distinguish them later.<br \/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KUSom6.png\" alt=\"Layer Properties Manager including Layer 0, Layer 1 and Layer 2\" width=\"950\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3605 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KUSom6.png 950w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KUSom6-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KUSom6-768x364.png 768w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/KUSom6-18x9.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/><\/li><li>Now we're going to create 4 objects; in this example, we've created circles:<br \/>-<strong> First circle:<\/strong> use layer0, colour: <strong>ByLayer<\/strong>, line thickness: <strong>ByLayer<\/strong><br \/>- <strong>Second circle:<\/strong> use layer0, colour: <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>, line thickness: <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>.<br \/>- <strong>Third circle:<\/strong> use layer0, colour: red, line thickness: 0.5 (we set this value high to make it easier to see).<br \/>- <strong>Fourth circle:<\/strong> use layer1, colour: <strong>ByLayer<\/strong>, line thickness: <strong>ByLayer<\/strong>.<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jckGLJ.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"199\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3606 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jckGLJ.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jckGLJ-14x12.jpg 14w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/p><\/li><li>Create 4 blocks, one from each of the circles. Now select these four and then change their layer to <strong>Layer2<\/strong>. You can see that blocks 1 and 2 use the properties of the <strong>Layer2<\/strong>But blocks 3 and 4 continue to use their own properties.<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/u6IRGr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"305\" height=\"259\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3607 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/u6IRGr.jpg 305w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/u6IRGr-300x255.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/u6IRGr-14x12.jpg 14w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/p><\/li><li>Now replace the colour and line thickness. Let's apply the colour green and a line thickness of 2. You can see that the only block to use the replaced properties is block no. 2!<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Only block 2 is using the block properties, because we've defined the geometry properties as <strong>ByBlock<\/strong>.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now freeze the <strong>Layer1<\/strong>. We can see that block #4 has disappeared, because the object inside it was created in the <strong>Layer1<\/strong>.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Defrost the <strong>Layer1<\/strong>to return to block 4. Now freeze the <strong>Layer2<\/strong>. Remember that we moved all the blocks to this layer.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">What happened?<\/h3><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the blocks have disappeared, including block no. 4! This block also disappears because the block itself is using Layer2. When we freeze <strong>Layer1<\/strong>, The block remains visible, but the geometry inside it disappears. This will be clearer if we have another object with a different layer inside that block.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Defrost the <strong>Layer2<\/strong> and then freeze the <strong>Layer0<\/strong>. None of the blocks disappear! Remember that we created the geometry in blocks 1, 2 and 3 using the <strong>Layer0<\/strong>? They will ignore it and use the new properties.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you want to understand this behaviour better, try creating more objects in your blocks.
