However, when you already have a lot of blocks inserted, editing each attribute one by one becomes time-consuming and error-prone. A faster workflow is to export the attribute data to a text file, edit it in Microsoft Excel and import the updated values back into the drawing.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"251\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3999 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1.png 450w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1-18x10.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">What you'll need<\/h2><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>LusoCAD with blocks with attributes in your drawing (Express Tools available)<br \/>- Microsoft Excel<br \/>- Ability to save and open .txt files<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tip:<\/strong> work on a copy of the design before making wholesale changes.<\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Step 1 - Export the attributes (ATTOUT)<\/h2><ol style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>In LusoCAD, run the command <strong>ATTOUT<\/strong>, or use <strong>Express Tools &gt; Blocks &gt; Export Attributes<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When prompted, indicate the name and location of the file. The file will be saved as a tab-delimited .txt.<\/li><li>Select the block inserts you want to export and press Enter to finish.<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exported text file usually includes columns such as Block Name, Handle (block ID), Attribute Tag and Value. You can export only selected blocks or the entire drawing - choose whichever is relevant to your editing.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"905\" height=\"584\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4000 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2-3.png 905w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2-3-300x194.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2-3-768x496.png 768w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2-3-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 905px) 100vw, 905px\" \/><\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Step 2 - Edit the attributes in Microsoft Excel<\/h2><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can edit the file in Notepad, but Excel is much more practical - especially if you need to sort, filter or use formulae for calculated values.<\/p><ol style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>Open Microsoft Excel and go to <strong>File &gt; Open<\/strong>. Change the file type filter to Text Files or All Files and select your exported .txt file.<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"487\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4002 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3-3.png 694w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3-3-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3-3-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 694px) 100vw, 694px\" \/><\/p><\/li><li>Excel will start the Text Import Wizard:<br \/>- Choose Delimited and click Next.<br \/>- Select Tab as the delimiter (the default value is usually the correct one) and click Next.<br \/>- Under Column data format, set the Handle column to Text to preserve it exactly.<br \/>You can click Finish to accept the default settings if the preview is correct.<\/li><li>Edit the attribute values as necessary. You can sort, filter, fill down and use formulas (for example, to calculate values across many rows).<\/li><li>If you used formulas, consider copying the edited columns and using Paste Values, so that the text file contains final values and not formulas.<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> Do NOT edit the \u201cHandle\u201d column. This is the unique ID of each block insertion. Changing it will prevent the data from being imported correctly.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"638\" height=\"273\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3996 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4-2.png 638w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4-2-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4-2-18x8.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Save from Excel<\/strong><\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>Save as Text (tab-delimited) .txt.<\/li><li>If Excel warns you about features that are not compatible with the text format, click Yes-we intend to keep the plain text format.<\/li><\/ul><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Step 3 - Import the attributes (ATTIN)<\/h2><ol style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>Back in LusoCAD, run <strong>ATTIN<\/strong>, or use <strong>Express Tools &gt; Blocks &gt; Import Attributes<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Search for the edited .txt file and confirm.<\/li><li>See the result on the command line, for example:<br \/>Command: ATTIN<br \/>Reading the input file...<br \/>Completed. 11 modified block insertions.<\/li><\/ol><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And that's it - your blocks are updated in one go. This method is especially useful when working with many blocks in the drawing; editing attributes block by block in the drawing itself would take a long time.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"851\" height=\"472\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4001 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5-2.png 851w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5-2-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5-2-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/www.luso-cad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5-2-18x10.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 851px) 100vw, 851px\" \/><\/p><h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tips and troubleshooting<\/h2><ul><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">No changes after import: confirm that you have not changed the Handle column and that the file has remained as a tab-delimited .txt.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Import wizard defaults: you can simply click Next and Finish - the default settings are usually sufficient if the preview is correct.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Strange characters: if you see unreadable text, try saving the text file with your system's default ANSI encoding. Avoid adding extra inverted commas or other delimiters.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Columns and headers: don't add or remove columns; keep the header structure intact so that the importer can map the data correctly.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Multi-line values: avoid inserting line breaks within cells; line breaks can be misinterpreted on import.<\/li><li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quality check: test with a small sample first.
