LusoCAD's Snap function is a fundamental tool for achieving precision when working with drawings and models. Thanks to this function, it is possible to select exact locations on objects, such as midpoints, corners and centres, facilitating the work of both beginners and advanced users.
Where to find the Snap function
The Snap menu is located on the model view toolbar, just below the model view in LusoCAD. Clicking on it brings up various options that allow you to define which locations on the object the cursor will automatically adjust to.

Types of Snap in LusoCAD
These are the most commonly used Snap modes, each useful for different situations:
- Endpoint: It allows you to adjust the cursor to the end of any line, ideal for starting or finishing drawings at precise points.
- Midpoint: Locates the exact midpoint of a line or object.
- Centre: Fits in the centre of circles.
- Geometric Centre: Selects the centroid of any object.
- Node: It adjusts to any singular point previously drawn with the Point command.
- Quadrant: Adjusts the cursor to the quadrants of a circle.
- Intersection: This allows you to select the point where two lines cross.
- Insert: Specific for inserting blocks, helping to position them exactly.
- Perpendicular: It allows you to draw lines perpendicular to each other.
- Tangent: It allows you to adjust the cursor to the exact point where two geometries touch at a single point.
- Nearest: Adjusts the cursor to the nearest point on any geometry in the drawing, even if it's not the most precise.
- Apparent int: For cases where two objects appear to cross but don't actually do so on the same plane, common in 3D drawings.
- Extend: It allows you to extend a line to fit an imaginary length.
- Parallel: It makes it easier to draw lines parallel to a reference line. It is recommended to first hover the cursor over the reference line until the Snap appears and then adjust the angle to match the parallelism.
- Distance: You can define a specific distance from the end point of a line.
- Divide: Allows you to divide a line into equal segments and activate Snap at each division point.
How to know if Snap is active
When the Snap is available, a small green square appears on the cursor when you hover over a Snap point on the object. Selected Snaps remain active until manually deactivated by the user.
Conclusion
LusoCAD's Snap function is essential for achieving accuracy and organisation in any technical drawing. Mastering each mode will allow you to work more efficiently and professionally.ย
