Use the Block Editor to define and modify the objects and behaviour in a block definition. In the Block Editor, you add parameters and actions, which define customised properties and dynamic behaviour.
You can access the Block Editor by typing the command “BEDIT” or by double-clicking on a block without attributes. You'll see the Block Editor's ribbon interface as below; the black arrows represent parameters, while the yellow lightning bolt symbol represents actions. If users are working with the classic interface, toolbars will appear.
Dynamic Block Editor Tool Panels
You can use the tools in the panels to define, edit and modify dynamic block definitions, making the process very convenient and quick.
- Manage: Save or Save as the default block; create or edit another block.
- Tool: Define, edit or update the block attribute.
- Parameter: Add parameters for Dynamic Blocks in this panel.
- Action: Add actions for Dynamic Blocks in this panel.
- Parameter Sets: Add a set of parameters to this panel.
- Visibility: Panel used specifically for editing visibility.
- Close: Used to exit the Block Editor. Before exiting, some commands such as Save or Open, etc., may not work.

Parameters look similar to dimensions. Parameters also specify positions, distances and angles for the geometry in a block reference. When you add a parameter to a dynamic block definition, the parameter defines one or more customised properties for the block. A dynamic block definition must contain at least one parameter. When a parameter is added to a dynamic block definition, the handles associated with the parameter's keypoints are added automatically. You then have to add an action to the block definition and associate it with a parameter.
- Point Parameter: Defines an X and Y location on the drawing. Can be associated with a Move or Stretch action.
- Linear Parameter: Shows the distance between two anchor points. Restricts the manipulator's movement along a predefined angle. Can be associated with Move, Stretch, Scale, or ArrayArray).
- Polar Parameter: It shows the distance between two anchor points and displays an angle value. You can use the toggles and the Properties Palette to change both the distance and the angle. Can be associated with Move, Scale, Stretch, Polar Stretch or Array.
- XY Parameter: Shows the X and Y distances from the parameter's base point. Can be associated with Move, Scale, Stretch or Array.
- Rotation Parameter: Define an angle. The angle of rotation can have any value, be set to a range or a specified value.
- Alignment Parameter: Defines an X and Y location and an angle. Always applies to the entire block and requires no associated action. Allows the block reference to automatically rotate around a point to align with another object in the drawing. Affects the block's rotation property.
- Flip Parameter: Inverts objects. Can be associated with a Flip action.
- Visibility Parameter: Controls the visibility of objects in the block. Always applies to the entire block and requires no associated action. In the drawing, click on the handle to display a list of visibility states available for the block reference.
- Lookup Parameter: Defines a customised property that you can specify or set to evaluate a value from a list or table that you define. It can be associated with a single query handle. In the block reference, click on the handle to display a list of available values. Can be associated with a Lookup action.
- Base Point Parameter: Defines a base point for the dynamic block reference in relation to the geometry in the block. It cannot be associated with any actions, but it can belong to the selection set of an action.
- Point Parameter: Defines an X and Y location on the drawing. Can be associated with a Move or Stretch action.

Actions define how the geometry of a dynamic block reference moves or changes when the block reference's customised properties are manipulated in a drawing.
- Move: Causes objects to move a specified distance and angle; a Move action associated with a Point, Linear, Polar or XY parameter moves all objects in the selection set in any direction.
- Scale: A Scale action (for example, associated with a Linear, Polar, XY, etc. parameter) applies scale to the selected objects in the direction of the parameter. Users can manipulate the handles in different ways by changing properties and values in the Properties Palette.
- Stretch: Moves and stretches objects a specified distance at a specified location. It can be associated with a Point, Linear, Polar, XY, etc. parameter.
- Polar Stretch: Rotates, moves and stretches objects a specified angle and distance when the keypoint of the associated Polar parameter is changed via a knob or the Properties Palette. Can only be applied to one Polar parameter.
- Rotate: It is always associated with a Rotation parameter. The selected objects can be rotated freely; the way the handles are manipulated can also be varied in the Properties Palette.
- Flip: It is always associated with a Flip parameter.
- Array: Associated with a Linear, Polar, XY, etc. parameter, it copies and distributes the selected objects in a matrix in different ways.
- Lookup: It can only be associated with a Lookup parameter.
