What is LusoCAD? Is it the same as AutoCAD?
LusoCAD is an alternative CAD software with high compatibility with ACAD. Thanks to continuous improvement and efficient innovation, LusoCAD stands out today in performance, stability and other key indicators and has quickly become a popular and valuable alternative on the market. It offers all the familiar functions of ACAD, making for a smooth transition, as well as innovative tools designed to optimise your design process.
Is the trial licence limited in functionality?
The trial version can be used for thirty days with all functions available.
Once the trial period is over, it will still be possible to open Undet projects and access basic functions such as visualisation settings, general visualisation and the Clipping Box tool. Advanced functions such as feature extraction, mesh generation or draping will no longer be available and you will need to activate your licence.
Is it possible to migrate the licence between computers?
Yes, there are no restrictions on transferring the licence between different devices.
I have very large point clouds; how does LusoCAD manage them?
LusoCAD Point Cloud is optimised to work with massive point clouds, even hundreds of gigabytes, on a conventional personal device, so file size is not a problem.
Does LusoCAD offer the same point cloud management functions as AutoCAD?
LusoCAD Point Cloud significantly improves point cloud management compared to AutoCAD's integrated tools. In addition to the basic import, clipping and analysis functions, it offers feature extraction, dynamic visualisation, advanced clipping tools, mesh generation and panorama integration, which creates more agile and precise workflows.
What are the system requirements for LusoCAD Point Cloud in order to achieve good performance?
There are no special requirements; today's workstations or gaming notebooks can handle massive point clouds:
- Operating System: Windows 10 and 11 64-bit OS.
- RAM: 16 GB or more
- Hard Drive: a solid state drive (SSD). For maximum performance, use an M.2 SSD.
- CPU: Intel Core i5 and later.
- GPU: NVidia or AMD graphics processor with support for OpenGL version 4.4 or higher. For example: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / GTX 1050 Ti / GTX 1650 / RTX 3050 / Quadro K2000 and later. AMD Radeon R9 270 / FirePro W5100 and later.
Software dependencies: Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2022 and .NET Framework 4.8 or higher are required.
Can a point cloud project be stored on a server and used by several people?
Only one user can open a point cloud project from the server at the same time. To avoid performance loss, the network connection speed should be 10 Gbps for download and upload. Otherwise, we recommend copying the project to a local SSD disc.
Can I run LusoCAD Point Cloud on virtual machines?
Yes, virtual machines are compatible.
Do LusoCAD Point Cloud projects support large coordinate systems, such as those used in state or aerial LiDAR?
Yes, if you have scan files in large or state coordinate systems (e.g. UAV, aerial LiDAR, etc.), you can create an Undet project.
All Undet plugins have "coordinate system transformation" tools.
For example, if you try to open the project in a wide coordinate system, the Undet plugin will suggest moving the point cloud to coordinates (0,0,0). At any time, you can change the project's coordinate system from (0,0,0) to the original one with large values.

We do not recommend generating deliverables using the point cloud in large coordinate systems, as this can lead to errors when using modelling tools and cause the initial visualisation to fail when zooming in.
Can I scale or resize point clouds with LusoCAD Point Cloud?
The Undet plugin for LusoCAD maintains the initial structure and scale of the file. Using the "coordinate system transformation" tools, you can move and rotate the project, but scaling is disabled.
All scan files must be registered and in the same scale and coordinate system.
Can I snap to the points in the point cloud?
Yes, you can snap to any point in the cloud. Just make sure that the ObjectSnap tool is activated with the "Node" setting option.

Note: We recommend keeping the Node option permanently disabled. It's better to use "CTRL + right click" and select the "Node" adjustment for a single use. It will be a one-off adjustment; if you need to adjust many points to the cloud, activate ObjectSnap with the "Node" option enabled.
